Funerals & Memorials

Picture
Please click on our Funerals booklet to download it. It contains a great deal of information which we hope will be useful.

We wish to emphasise that we understand completely that when a person dies, who you have known and loved, it can seem as if the world stops; and whilst everybody else goes on with their normal lives you are left struggling to find a new normal – whatever 'normal' is.
In that vein, we will be with you to help and support, not seeking to impose. Even if you don’t share our faith but seek a simple graveside farewell rather than a church funeral.
We offer ourselves in compassion, dignity and service.

Initial action to be taken in the event of a death
After having dealt with the immediate medical formalities following a death, contacting a reliable Funeral Director is crucial. The Anglican Church works closely with local undertakers, including Angel Guardians Funeral Home, and their advice will be important.
Whichever undertaker you choose, they will ensure that everything is carried out according to your wishes and crucially they will complete the necessary paperwork for you, which will include the registering of a death and the obtaining of death certificates.

A local undertaker will arrange the funeral on your behalf if you wish a burial in Cyprus and they will advise you regarding the obtaining of a burial plot for your loved one.
If you wish
for a repatriation to your home country for burial or cremation they will also arrange this on your behalf. There are currently no crematorium facilities in Cyprus.

Our clergy are also available to help when a loved one is dying.
If you wish to involve us when a death has occurred, w
e can also help with the planning of a funeral. Whether you require a simple graveside service, or a church funeral service we are happy to support you and fulfil your wishes. Contact the Church Secretary
/ Funeral Ministry Administrator, Di Sylvester, by using the Contact form found HERE. She can offer assistance and can confirm the availability of a church, if required.

We can also provide a Memorial Service to mark an anniversary, or if you have received ashes from abroad for which you wish a burial or scattering, we can provide a simple service for all these occasions.

If you cannot attend a funeral outside the island we can also arrange a service of prayer, appropriate to the moment, which includes your own choice of music and reading(s).

You do not have to be a member of our church to call on us.

We understand that when you have just lost someone you are close to, it can be hard to absorb new information and to make decisions. We, along with your funeral director, will stand beside you and guide you through each step of the way.

If you are wishing to record your wishes regarding your own funeral arrangements please download our 'Instructions for my Funeral' form by clicking the button below. All the relevant information for completing it can be found on the form itself.
