A Service of Prayer and Blessing
after a Civil Marriage.

Many couples who have had a civil wedding decide they would like to dedicate their marriage to God either in one of our churches, or at another venue, following their civil marriage.
A husband and wife can have their marriage blessed whether they were married in the UK or elsewhere.

Some couples have to marry in a civil ceremony to stay together legally in the country where they are living.
A subsequent blessing provides a significant religious service for family and friends to attend, and celebrate with them, even if they couldn't attend the earlier civil ceremony.
This service acknowledges the commitment already made between a husband and wife, and asks for God’s blessing and guidance in their new life together.
Because a Service of Prayer and Blessing is not a marriage service, there are no legal requirements involved, but the blessing of rings and the signing of a certificate acknowledges the significance of the service for the couples involved and to their friends and family.
This service can be adapted in many ways to suit the couple’s wishes. It can have a similar feel to a wedding with hymns, readings and flowers, or it can be an intimate, low key service.
