The Commemoration Service for His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, at Ayia Kyriaki, Friday 16th April 2021.
A good number of people came to Ayia Kyriaki for the Commemorative service for HRH Prince Philip that was held last Friday afternoon. It was good to see parishioners from St Paul’s Catholic Parish joining us and to be able to welcome Father Jim to the service, along with other friends. Our thoughts and prayers were directed by liturgical material provided by the Church of England and the Church of Scotland. Prince Philip’s early life was very effectively recounted with material taken from the Independent’s obituary notice. There was even reference to Prince Philip’s Greek Orthodox heritage with the use of the traditional Orthodox Kontakion for the departed. While, we might have lacked the grandeur of the big occasion, our rich but simple service provided all with an opportunity to mark the death of the Queen’s husband with dignity and respect – as he deserved.
