On Saturday 4 June, 2022, members of the Anglican Church of Paphos were joined by their friends, family and neighbours for a Street Party to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
Essentially a fundraising event, it was the camaraderie amongst the 100 guests which made this occasion so special.
The support given from the volunteers was immeasurable, we knew it was going to be a huge task and every one of them stepped up and gave more than was expected. From the logistics prior to the event, including all the wonderful donations we received, setting up on the day, preparing and serving the three-course lunch, clearing up post event and contributing to making new memories.
There were sideshows such as Play your Cards Right, Get the Ball in the Box, and Where did the Corgi bury its bone? Reverend Ken was spied selling raffle tickets and directing people to the Tombola. DJ Graham provided the music and even karaoke for the brave. He judged the ‘Best Crown’ competition which had two categories – under 21 and over 21. Surprise, surprise we had two little girls who won the under 21’s and Angela Hamilton won the over 21’s – this was a difficult decision as people had been very creative. The 50’s Quiz was won by members of St Luke’s, who each received a prize for their efforts.
The afternoon finished with the reading of a message from her Majesty and of course the toast to her continued good health and long life. It was a truly unforgettable occasion and will be cherished by all who attended.
Holy Communion and Picnic Lunch in Pikni Forest, Peyia
On a lovely sunny day, 25 people attended the gathering in the Peyia forest for the annual Ascension Day service, organised by St Luke's.
Reverend Andrew was the celebrant, owing to Reverend Ken being taken ill with Covid. Members from all three churches were involved in the readings and intercessions, and Holy Communion was administered during the service. The congregation was in fine singing voice, when we sang hymns to celebrate the ascension of Christ.
The service was followed by a bring your own picnic, which most of the congregation stayed for. More images of this atmospheric occasion can be found HERE or by using the links above- GALLERIES -> Services
3,500 euros raised for the Friends’ Hospice
During the early part of this year, small empty water bottles were made available to the members of our three congregations so that spare change/coins could be collected. This raised 2,550 euros and together with money from the church Lent collections, was presented to the church ‘Charity of the Year’ the Friends’ Hospice. Chris Jones (hospice President) received a cheque for a total of 3,500 euros from Parish Priest, Revd. Ken Waters, at the new hospice premises in Tala. Chris said “I am personally gratified at the thoughts, prayers and financial contributions of the Anglican Church of Paphos, along with those of the many other individuals and organisations who continue to support our work”.

A huge ‘Thank You’
A huge thank you to all of you who contributed in any way to the success of the Spring Fayre held last Saturday at St Stephen’s. An amazing 1.750 euros was raised for church funds. Despite the gloomy weather, the event proved popular and was well attended by local residents, tourists and church members.
