The World Day of Prayer service prepared by the Church Women of Palestine took place at St Stephen's church in Tala on Friday 1 March and was attended by 42 ladies and gentlemen followed by refreshments. It was a very poignant service with positive comments received and grateful thanks extended to those who supported this wonderful service. ![]() Our new Parish Priest licensed at Synod The Opening Eucharist of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf Synod 2024, saw two Priests licensed to the “Cure of Souls” in their parishes, Reverend Gillian Nisbet – Abu Dhabi and our Reverend Paul Carr – Paphos. Although, ideally, everyone of the Anglican Church of Paphos would have wished to witness Reverend Paul making his “Declaration of Assent” and taking his “Oath of Canonical Obedience” to Archbishop Hosam Naoum, the acting bishop of our Diocese, however, this was just not possible with Synod being so soon after Paul’s arrival and needing him to take full part in the House of Clergy at this Synod. Nevertheless, there were three members of the Church Council present to witness this special occasion in our and Reverend Paul’s life. Prior to coming to Cyprus Paul was Team Rector of the Billericay and Little Burstead Team Ministry, Essex. Reverend Paul will be formally welcomed into the Anglican Church of Paphos on a date to be decided and we all do look forward to a long and fruitful time with us. ![]() The farewell Eucharist service took place at Ayia Kyriaki to a packed church with more than 75 parishioners attending. Archdeacon Christopher Fulcher preached a splendid sermon and paid homage to Revd Ken naming some of the projects that he had undertaken and completed during his time with us. The gospel procession was led by Revd Andrew Burtt who also read the gospel. It was a joyful / sad occasion but it was an uplifting way for Rev Ken to finish his time with us and begin his retirement. The service was followed by a meal at Neo’s Sports Bar in Coral Bay and a presentation was made to Ken to thank him for all that he has done for so many of us. He was always cheerful, caring, thoughtful, open minded and the list could go on. He will be very much missed. More pictures of the service and the following meal can be found HERE |
