On Saturday 4  June, 2022, members of the Anglican Church of Paphos were joined by their friends, family and neighbours for a Street Party to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

Essentially a fundraising event, it was the camaraderie amongst the 100 guests which made this occasion so special.

The support given from the volunteers was immeasurable, we knew it was going to be a huge task and every one of them stepped up and gave more than was expected. From the logistics prior to the event, including all the wonderful donations we received, setting up on the day, preparing and serving the three-course lunch, clearing up post event and contributing to making new memories.

There were sideshows such as Play your Cards Right, Get the Ball in the Box, and Where did the Corgi bury its bone?  Reverend Ken was spied selling raffle tickets and directing people to the Tombola. DJ Graham provided the music and even karaoke for the brave. He judged the ‘Best Crown’ competition which had two categories – under 21 and over 21.  Surprise, surprise we had two little girls who won the under 21’s and Angela Hamilton won the over 21’s – this was a difficult decision as people had been very creative.  The 50’s Quiz was won by members of St Luke’s, who each received a prize for their efforts.

The afternoon finished with the reading of a message from her Majesty and of course the toast to her continued good health and long life. It was a truly unforgettable occasion and will be cherished by all who attended.
