Chaplain's Corner
Let me introduce myself :-
My name is Rev'd Paul Carr and I arrived in Paphos in January 2024 with my wife Paula, and Dylan, our Australian Labradoodle. I’m originally from Sunderland, in the North East of England and I’ve been married to Paula, who is a specialist health visitor, since 1986; we have two children, Benjamin and Annabel who are both living and working in the UK.
Before coming to Cyprus, I was the Team Rector in the Billericay & Little Burstead Team Ministry for nearly 16 years and before that I was the Vicar of Chadwell Heath for 7 years, both of these were in the Chelmsford Diocese. I served my curacy in Handforth, Chester Diocese. I was ordained in 1997, after training at Oakhill Theological College. I studied for an MA in Missional Leadership at the University of Wales.
Prior to ordination I worked for ten years in sales and management in the Timber and Building Trade, followed by several years in the Prison Service (HMP Durham, HMP Wormwood Scrubs and HMP Liverpool).
I relax through listening to music (I appreciate many genres, though I have a soft spot for rock and blues) and particularly enjoy live music. I was a registered Music Promoter in the UK, organising regular local gigs in my garden, house and churches. Highlights have to be Ricky Ross (Deacon Blue), Robert Vincent, Beth Neilsen Chapman, The Lake Poets, Lauren Housley, Lindisfarne to name but a few.
I enjoy watching most sports (even attending Super Bowl XLIX – it’s a long story). I try to watch SAFC when I can, but Rugby Union was always my first love supporting Saracens (after playing for them for a couple of years!).
Paula and I are now looking forward to whatever serving and living in Paphos will bring our way.
