Some hymns are sung for a season. Rock of Ages has been sung for centuries. Born in the 1700s from the pen of a fiery young preacher caught in a storm, it became an anthem of grace and clinging to Christ, the Rock who saves. Another favourite of mine – a timeless classic.
Rock Of Ages Today the church remembers William Temple, teacher and preacher who served as Archbishop of Canterbury during the difficult days of the Second World War. But who was William Temple?
William Temple Few hymns capture faith through tragedy like “It Is Well with My Soul.” Its story is one of deep loss, unshakable trust, and hope in Christ that has carried generations of believers.
It Is Well … This moving Lament was given by Archdeacon Imad Zoorob at the Jerusalem synod I attended last week. It is something only someone from the region could write and is well worth reading.
Lament: Imad Zoorob Today, Christians and churches across the world are marking All Souls' Day. Also known as the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed. It is a day we remember those who have died = whether recently or long ago. Lighting a candle can often help us pause, pray and think of them for a few moments. Today is All Saints Day. Why not spend today thinking about, talking about, or making a list of those Christians whose lives are (or were) an example to you, and pray in thanksgiving to God for the ways they inspire you.
A Prayer for All Saints Day On 31 October the church remembers Martin Luther, priest and reformer, 1546.
But who was Martin Luther? Martin Luther and the Reformation Few songs are still sung after 1,200 years. “Be Thou My Vision” is one of them. It’s one of my favourite hymns and it has been a favourite for Christians from medieval Ireland to modern churches worldwide.
Be Thou My Vision On 29 October the church remembers James Hannington, bishop, martyr, 1847 – 1885. But who was James Hannington?
James Hannington ‘In Christ Alone’ is one of the most popular hymns of all time. Read the story behind the hymn here.
In Christ Alone The COP30 United Nations Climate Conference takes place from 6-21 November 2025 in Belém, Brazil. It will bring together world leaders, scientists, non-governmental organizations, and civil society to discuss priority actions to tackle climate change.
COP30: UN Climate Conference 2025 Nehemiah is one if my favourite Bible characters and I've preached on him and taught on him several times over the years. However, there’s always something new to learn and I found this article by Jennifer Slattery to be a helpful read.
Nehemiah: How To Respond To Emotionally Intense Circumstances On 18 October the church remembers St Luke – one of the disciples of Jesus. St Luke is the patron saint of physicians, doctors, and surgeons. But who was St Luke, and what do we know about him?
Saint Luke the Evangelist On 17 October the church remembers Ignatius of Antioch, also known as Ignatius Theophorus, bishop, martyr, c. 107. But who was Ignatius of Antioch?
