 Some hymns feel like they’ve always existed. But “How Deep The Father’s Love For Us” isn’t from the 1700’s … it was written in 1995. It spread quietly … then globally. It is one of my favourite hymns.

Justice and Peace in Palestine and Israel  On 19 November, the church remembers Hilda, Apostle of Charity, teacher, administrator and advisor, spiritual director, reformer, abbess, 614-680. Hilda is also known as one of the patron saints of learning and culture, including poetry. But who was Hilda of Whitby?

 On 13 November the Church remembers, and gives thanks to God for, the life and ministry of Charles Simeon, priest, evangelical divine, 1759 – 1836.
Charles Simeon  Some hymns are sung for a season. Rock of Ages has been sung for centuries. Born in the 1700s from the pen of a fiery young preacher caught in a storm, it became an anthem of grace and clinging to Christ, the Rock who saves. Another favourite of mine – a timeless classic.
Rock Of Ages  Today the church remembers William Temple, teacher and preacher who served as Archbishop of Canterbury during the difficult days of the Second World War. But who was William Temple?
William Temple  Few hymns capture faith through tragedy like “It Is Well with My Soul.” Its story is one of deep loss, unshakable trust, and hope in Christ that has carried generations of believers.
It Is Well …  This moving Lament was given by Archdeacon Imad Zoorob at the Jerusalem synod I attended last week. It is something only someone from the region could write and is well worth reading.

 Today is All Saints Day. Why not spend today thinking about, talking about, or making a list of those Christians whose lives are (or were) an example to you, and pray in thanksgiving to God for the ways they inspire you.
