On 31 March the church remembers John Donne, soldier, scholar priest, poet, 1572-1631. But who was John Donne?
John Donne On 25 March, the Church celebrates the Annunciation—the moment when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary with the message of God’s divine plan. Mary’s response, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38)—echoes across time, calling us to reflect on our response to God’s mission. Mary the mother of our Lord, was chosen, trusted, and favoured, not for her status, but for her willingness to carry Christ into the world.
Annunciation Day: a reflection from Diocesan Mothers’ Union president – Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf On 24 March the church remembers Óscar Romero, archbishop, martyr, and Patron Saint of El Salvador, 1917-1980. But who was Óscar Romero?
Óscar Romero Many of us, and those we love, are in need of healing - whether that be physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual. Christians believe that God desires the well being of all people and it is because of this, and because we believe in a God who answers prayer, that we are holding a 'Service of Healing and Wholeness' at Saint Stephen's Tala on Sunday 23 March at 11.00 am.
We will pray for those in strained relationships, for those who are ill and bereaved and those who are struggling with the challenges of everyday life. There will also be an opportunity to be anointed with oil as we ask God's healing touch on our body, soul and spirit. We give you a warm invitation to join with us. It doesn't matter if you're not a regular church attendee. It would be great to see you. Spiritual director the Reverend Roy Shaw, a Diocesan Retreats partner, will be leading an online Lent retreat for the Diocese on 22 March at 1500-1700 UAE/1300-1500 CY.
For more details and to register, please contact the Reverend Gill Nisbet who will be acting as retreat facilitator ([email protected]). On 21 March the Church of England remembers Thomas Cranmer. Cranmer was the first Protestant Archbishop of Canterbury and a leader of the English Reformation who had a significant impact on the Church of England in it’s liturgy and writings. But who is Thomas Cranmer?
Thomas Cranmer The 20 March celebrates Saint Cuthbert, the patron Saint of Northumberland whose remains are buried in Durham Cathedral – one of my favourite places. But who is Saint Cuthbert?
Saint Cuthbert On 19 March the church remembers Joseph of Nazareth (also known as Joseph the Betrothed and Joseph the Worker) the earthly father of Jesus Christ. Joseph is also the Patron Saint of unborn children, fathers, workers, travellers, immigrants, and a happy death. But who was Joseph of Nazareth?
Saint Joseph of Nazareth On 18 March the church remembers Cyril, bishop, teacher of the faith and doctor of the church, whose writings are still regarded as masterful expressions of the Christian faith, 315 – 386. But who was Cyril of Jerusalem?
Saint Cyril of Jerusalem The 17 March celebrates Saint Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland. So, to all my Irish friends “Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Duit!” And may you wear your Shamrocks with pride.
But who was Saint Patrick? Saint Patrick’s Day Today we remember the amazing pastor, prayer warrior and justice activist George Müller who died on 10 March in 1898.
But who was George Müller? George Müller The date of 9 March 2025 has been set aside for a National Day of Reflection. This unique day is an opportunity to remember our loved ones who’ve died; support family, friends, colleagues and neighbours who are grieving; and connect with each other.
This was announced on SUNDAY 9 MARCH 2025 I've been invited by Bishop Sean Semple to serve the Anglican Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf as Archdeacon in Cyprus. This is an unexpected and privileged opportunity and I'm grateful to Bishop Sean for his confidence in me. I'm also grateful for the encouragement of my family and to the church council of the Anglican Church of Paphos for their support and in releasing me to serve the Diocese in this way. Please do keep me in your prayers as plans are made for my collation. Your browser does not support viewing this document. Click here to download the document. |
